    The Shiva Sutra is one of the most profound and experiential tantric texts. Each of these 77 Sutras presents the experiences gained by the masters in the process of completing their spiritual quest. These masters were hatha yogis, deeply steeped in the practices of tantra and alchemy. They used their bodies as laboratories, combining the techniques of pranayama, mudras, herbs, gems, mantras, yantras, and mandalas. By applying the integrated techniques of yoga, tantra, ayurveda, and alchemy, they gained access to the vast pool of kundalini and prana shakti. The sum of these techniques and experiences emerged as the Shiva Sutra.

    The Shiva Sutra is a revealed scripture, a priceless gift from Sage Durvasam, who is one of the great luminaries of the Sri Vidya tradition. To date, commentators and scholars have focused on only the philosophical and metaphysical dimensions of the Shiva Sutra, but it is only by studying this text in conjunction with scriptures such as the Yoga Sutra and Saundaryalahari that we begin to comprehend the true spirit of this powerful text.

    About Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, PhD

    Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, PhD, is a modern-day master and living link in the unbroken Himalayan Tradition. He is the successor to Sri Swami Rama of the Himalayas, and the spiritual head of the Himalayan Institute. As the author of numerous books, including his autobiography Touched by Fire: The Ongoing Journey of a Spiritual Seeker, Pandit Tigunait offers practical guidance on applying yogic and tantric wisdom to modern life. For over 40 years he has touched innumerable lives around the world as a teacher, humanitarian, and visionary spiritual leader.     Pandit Tigunait holds two doctorates: one in Sanskrit from the University of Allahabad in India, and another in Oriental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Family tradition gave Pandit Tigunait access to a vast range of spiritual wisdom preserved in both the written and oral traditions. Before meeting his master, Pandit Tigunait studied Sanskrit, the language of the ancient scriptures of India, as well as the languages of the Buddhist, Jaina, and Zorastrian traditions. In 1976, Swami Rama ordained Pandit Tigunait into the 5,000-year-old lineage of the Himalayan Masters.
