Yama - The Householders (CD)

Regular Price $9.99

“Yama” by The Householders integrates a mixture of catchy EDM, in-your-face hiphop, and Indian devotional chant (known as kirtan).

The much anticipated third album is a confident fusion of soulful melodies and poignant lyrics from songstress Jaylen Green, no-holds-barred hip-hop from poet/rapper Zach Ketterhagen, and original kirtan chants by Nema Nyar - screamingly cradled within electronica, soul, and jazz from the genius of arrangers and producers David Goddard and Phil Petrie.

Yoga practitioners will likely notice the significance of the album’s title—Yama—which refers to the yogic disciplines of ahimsa (non-violence), satya (truthfulness), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (walking in God consciousness) and aparigraha (non-possessiveness). The first five tracks are creative interpretations of each of these concepts.

Don’t expect to be lulled by a gentle hand-holding “kum ba yah” —though The Householders posses the soul of more traditional kirtan, their contemporary sound would sit most comfortably next to Skrillex and Kanye West. But as their music weaves the sacred into the mundane The Householders explore the depths of a heartfelt and deeply personal spiritual journey. Their sound confirms an innate sense that something otherworldly upholds the world.
