About the Authors

Swami Rama, the founder of the Himalayan Institute, was one of the most remarkable figures of the twentieth century. His teachings, publications, and humanitarian efforts have rippled positive changes around the world, and have brought yoga into the lives of countless people. He was born in northern India in 1925, and was raised from childhood by the Himalayan sage Bengali Baba. Swami Rama later received higher education in both India and Europe. From 1949 to 1952 he held the prestigious position of Shankaracharya in South India. He then returned to his master to receive further training at his cave monastery. In 1969 he came to the United States and established the Himalayan Institute. His best-known work, Living with the Himalayan Masters, reveals the many facets of his wisdom and his embodiment of an ancient Himalayan tradition. The Reverend Lawrence Bouldin was a minister of the United Methodist Church and taught religious studies, philosophy, and ethics at Kendall College and taught religious studies, philosophy, and ethics at Kendall College and North Central College.

Justin O'Brien, D Th, has taught at Loyola University of Chicago and has lectured at several other colleges.

Father William Teska was a chaplain at the University of Minnesota Episcopal Center.

Arpita, PhD, is a psychologist and the author of Psychology of the Beatitudes.

Sister Francis Borgia Rothluebber, former Mother General, School Sisters of St. Francis, was also past president of the National Catholic Reporter and a leading author on religious life.

Pandit Usharbudh Arya, D Litt, author of several books on meditation, is a former professor of Sanskrit and Indian religions at the University of Minnesota and a recipient of its Distinguished Teacher's Award.
